Yesterday was an exceptional day, so we caught the Days Bay Ferry out to Matiu/Somes Island. We had a couple of hours to wander around after a picnic lunch. It's well worth the visit, with well formed easy tracks, and panoramic views around the harbour which are quite splendid.
There's plenty of wild life, seagulls, robins, kakariti, skinks ... as the re-growth develops, this is only going to get better.
The day was topped when we spotted a tuatara skulking under a low branch about 5-10 metres off the track.
We got back onto the ferry just before the southerly change came, which made the crossing to Day's Bay and then Seatoun a bit bumpy.
