The right hand doesn't know ...

She climbed on the bus, obviously having been to the gym and only rode for a single section.
Backpack, bag, ipod and cellphone ... and bus ticket.
Standing room only, so she drops her bag on to the shelf behind the first seat, and braces on the pole.
The ipod is attached to the bag, so she needs to release that ... into her left hand.
Now for the real trick:
With the ipod in her left hand, and the cellphone in her right hand, she delves into her bag, and gets out her purse, opens it and stows her bus ticket into it, returning the purse to her bag.
She then hooks the ipod onto her belt, and turns around to quickly check her surroundings before consulting her cellphone for ... I don't know, a new message?
Thoughout this entire process, she did not release the familiar grip on the cellphone, even though it was an impediment to manipulating all the bits & pieces.
I must be showing my age, but do we REALLY need to spend our lives clutching a cellphone in our right hand? How often have you had to avoid an intent texter as they walk down the street, oblivious to the real world?

Ocean Beach Disgrace

The Hastings District Council has invested $200,000 of your rates into a development consultation to build 540 houses at Ocean Beach.
This is a national disgrace that could compromise this beautiful wilderness coastline forever.

Point Dorset III

There is a very serious and immediate threat to the ecosystem on the beach under Fort Dorset.
The only clump of native pingeo on the whole stretch of beach, (and quite likely, as far as I can see, the last remaining clump of pingeo on the Miramar Penninsula) has become a victim of the foot and bicycle traffic which tumbles over the hill from Seatoun.
Whereas the introduced marram grass can tolerate the traffic, this clump is doomed if it is not protected from the yahoos.

Point Dorset II

So it's very nice ...
but it's also under threat.
The houses of Seatoun are creeping up to the brow of the hill and are threatening to peep over the top and completely ruin the widerness effect that IS Breaker Bay. That low saddle to the right is just above the roof of a house on the other side. I hope the good bergers of Seatoun don't let it happen.

Point Dorset

Lets hear it for the Pass of Brandas!
I am sure I am not the first one to observe that just about every mile of the Wellington Harbour shoreline from Pencarrow to Red Rocks (and beyond) is marred by a road (or railway line).
There is only one spot where the land rises from the ocean and is not sliced by a transport link.
And what a little gem it is from Breaker Bay to Seatoun Beach!
You get around the corner under the Fort, and it's like the city is miles away.
It is also the only place where the little blue penguins don't have to take their life into their ... err, fins, to get into the undergrowth.
